8 Week Challenge

My wife and I challenged each other to get in shape in time for our 11th wedding anniversary (February 28). That gives us 8 weeks, starting today, to start exercising with earnest and eating better. We both did the Bill Phillips “Body for Life” plan about 5 years ago and it really did help us from spinning out of control. We eat well, have low blood pressure and are in generally good health.

My motivation is with my new look I want a “new body” to go with it. I want my wife to look at me with out having to squint to see the “old me”.

I took a “before” photo from the front and from the side. I’ll take one each Sunday and compare them over the next 8 weeks to remind myself just how far I have to go. I debated with myself about posting this, but I figure I’ve got everything to “lose” so…

  1. Steve,

I’ll tell you the same thing I tell all my patients, eat right and exercise. Exercise can be as simple as walking but you should do the activity briskly enough to keep your heart rate up and for at least an hour.

    Good luck.

  2. Thanks Andy! I’m the classic adult: I know what to do, but I’m not doing it. I love to walk and even enjoy spending time on a treadmill because it helps me “deprogram” from the day. Any thoughts on exercise in the morning vs. the evening?

  3. Nope, I’ve never heard of any difference between morning and evening. I think it has more to do with when you can consistently schedule it in your day.

  4. Great to hear, Steve. Good luck with it! Just keep in mind what you’re committed to in life. That should give you the base of motivation you’ll need to achieve your goals.
