I manage a team of professional technical consultants for a Fortune 100 company. I like clever uses of technology whether it's in a data center or the kitchen of my house.

Drunkenbatman Racial Controversy

Daring Fireball: “It was an exaggeration intended to emphasize his implied thesis, which is that black people, in general, are under-represented in the Mac community compared to the communities surrounding other OS platforms. I don’t know whether that’s true; I hope it’s not, but I don’t know. When opinions run as hot as they can regarding an issue such as racial diversity, it’s essential to argue with as many facts as possible — and but alas, Drunkenbatman had no numbers to cite.”

Five Years of Daring Fireball

John Gruber: “Five years ago yesterday, I started Daring Fireball. Things change fast: the first article was on the just-released-that-day dual 1.25 GHz Power Mac G4s; most Mac users, and most DF readers, were still on Mac OS 9; DF had no Linked List and didn’t offer any RSS feeds. It took me a few months to find my voice, but the early entries aren’t too bad.”

Congratulations, John! Here’s to five more years of wit, sarcasm and great writing.

Marathon–purchased!

I was home at lunch today and [like I predicted](http://www.houseofwarwick.com/2007/07/11/marathon-durandal-coming-to-xbox-live-arcade/) I purchased Marathon: Durandal from Xbox Live Marketplace. By the time I was finished with lunch, the download was complete and I fired up the app.

Not many differences than before and I *still* got the snot scared out of me at the end of the third level when the floating robots pop up in front of the framebuffer. Ah, just like the good ol’ days.

Everybody's working for the weekend

I’ve spent the last three days doing some work for my brother-in-law’s new office. I put in a new phone system and helped some nice guys from a Des Moines tech company out of a jam by configuring their network switches. by the end of the weekend, I’m a bit tired of looking at a computer screen or thinking about technology.

Tammy and I are still in Des Moines for swhile longer. We’re making a run to the local upscale mall so I can say ‘hello’ to the Apple store and she can make a return or two. We’ll get lunch, fill up with gas and ice and then head home.

I feel like a smuggler; I have sweet corn a rye whisky in the trunk.
