Something good happened today; something that is different. I’ll talk more on Monday so I’m offline until then.

Doug Guccione was my teach for three dinners at the start of 2005, teaching me sauces, presentation and some tradition Italian recipes. It was a blast and the knowledge stuck. I can *still* walk up to a saucepan and turn out a good white sauce without fear.
Thanks Doug!

Do you ever feel like you’re caught in an infinite loop? I’ve had a day where I made “progress” in one direction, climbing out of a hole only to realize that the top of this hole is the bottom of another.
I think listening to the Talking Heads doesn’t help, either.
David Byrne finds puppets in a most unusual place
David Byrne Journal: “Drummer Kenny Wollesen revealed this morning at breakfast that the ‘arc de triomphe’ at Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn is hollow, and it houses the New York puppet lending library! The arch is filled with puppets! In fact, a spiral staircase winds up and the walls are filled with them, many life-sized, categorized by type, one of which is insects.”
DIY Pita Bread
I make pita bread from time to time and this recipe from Epicurious never fails. The last time I did this, I used our Weber Q200 gas grill and the results were perfect!

Dear NewsFire User in the Netherlands:
If your IP address is 81.204.48.1 and you live in Amsterdam and you use NewsFire, please stop checking for site updates every 10 minutes. I would prefer something more conservative, like maybe 1 hour or so.

Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker on sale for $174.99
*Update: you’re too late–it was only a two day sale.*
If you’ve been thinking about getting a smoker, now’s the time.
Amazon has the Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker on sale for just under $175. It’s what [Matt](http://kerner.net) and I use for smoking meats and fish and it’s fantastic. The $175 price is cheaper than what I paid for mine and a bargain for the quality.
Bottom line: If you already are a “griller”, buy a smoker. You won’t be sorry.
